It comes from a lab, from a long list of synthetic ingredients tucked under one tidy word on the label: "fragrance." We've chosen a different path, and we want to be clear about why.
The Plants Already Smell Like Something
Here's the simple truth. A good herb doesn't need help smelling good. Lavender smells like lavender. Peppermint fills the room on its own. Rose, chamomile, cedar, they each carry a scent that's real and grounded and theirs.
When we blend a tea or make a salve, the aroma you notice is the plant itself. We think that's part of the experience, and covering it with a manufactured scent would hide the very thing we worked to preserve.
Why We Steer Clear of Synthetic Fragrance
Beyond taste, there are good reasons to be cautious with artificial fragrance. A few we keep in mind:
- It can bother sensitive skin. Synthetic fragrance is a common trigger for irritation and reactions, especially in something you rub on your skin and leave there.
- It can hide the truth. A heavy scent can mask ingredients that aren't fresh or high quality. If the aroma is doing the work, you have to wonder what it's covering for.
- It just isn't necessary. When your herbs are good, you don't need to dress them up.
We'd rather keep our formulas clean and simple, so you know exactly what you're getting and can trust every part of it.
Our One Honest Exception
We believe in being straight with you, so here's the full picture. Once in a while, we offer lotion bars that may include a fragrance. It's the one place you might find one in our lineup.
When we do use a fragrance in a lotion bar, we tell you plainly. It's clearly listed right there in that product's description, so there are no surprises. If you don't want it, you'll always know before you buy. Everything else we make, our teas and salves, is made without artificial fragrance, full stop.
That kind of honesty matters more to us than a perfect marketing story. We'd rather tell you exactly what's in your jar than pretend we're something we're not.
