A tincture is a concentrated liquid herbal extract. We steep herbs in high-proof alcohol (and sometimes vegetable glycerin) for weeks to draw out their beneficial compounds, then bottle the strained liquid. You take it by the dropperful, usually in a little water. Tinctures absorb quickly, stay shelf-stable for a long time, and are an easy way to work herbs into a daily routine.
Most do — alcohol is one of the best ways to extract and preserve an herb’s properties. The amount in a normal dropper dose is very small, so you won’t feel any effects. If you’d rather avoid it, drop your dose into a mug of hot water and let it sit a minute so most of the alcohol evaporates, or ask us about an alcohol-free (glycerite) version.

Alcohol-based tinctures are very stable and can keep for years. Salves generally last one to two years, and teas are best enjoyed within about a year. Store everything in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Each product is labeled with any specific guidance.
